If you read the many articles, analyze the research, and listen to the distraught parents, you may gain a sense that young people are leaving the church after their high school years. Sadly, this seems to be the norm, and, full disclosure, we don't have a cure all solution to eliminate the problem. There are, however, two areas that the CoE Student Ministry pinpoints in an effort combat this depressing reality.
- Teaching contrary to the perceived irrelevance of the church, the bible, and Jesus.
- Creating a safe place where students can question, doubt, and work out their salvation with fear and trembling.
Here we create a space where students can belong, see other Christian young people, and, through the work of the Holy Spirit, can begin the first steps of authentic belief in God.
Ok... Thats Nice, so how do you do that?
so happy you asked!
Tried and true, Youth Group has been a staple in churches across the nation, and ours is no exception. Our group is about community, laughter, worship, and learning more about ourselves and God. We split our group between JR & SR High.
JR High is tough time in life, so here at CoE we try and make the transition a bit more tolerable. We teach the 'big picture' themes found in the bible so we can better understand what God really says. All this, plus games, music, and worship.
JR High happens every Sunday from 5-7pm and is open to all 6th-8th graders.
See you Sunday!
We believe that SR High is the best time for difficult questions about our faith, world, and life to be answered. We embrace the challenge and authenticity that comes from these conversations. Come Join us for worship, community, and teaching from God's word.
SR High happens every Sunday from 7-9pm and is open to all 9th-12th Graders
See you Sunday!
As people created in God's image, we were designed to worship. This should be aimed at God himself, but much of the world focuses their worship elsewhere. CoE Youth is committed to teaching, leading, and understanding biblical worship.
Piano, Trombone, Flute, Guitar, bass, steel drums, and ukuleles. These are a few of the instruments that we use to worship on a weekly basis. Many of our students are excellent musicians and we make sure they have a place to showcase their talents
The Bible tells us to worship in spirit and in truth, and music isn't the only way that this is accomplished. The youth want to see change in the world, and though service we can worship God and help others. This year we are focusing on homelessness and depression.
Another staple of church youth groups are retreats. We believe that they are just as important now as they were in the past. Retreats give our students the opportunity to connect with God and each other, all while experiencing some time away from home.
Here are a few of our annual retreats:
